Follow these step-by-step guidance on how to cut the lace off your wig:
- First, place the wig on the wig head, which can help you easily cut off the lace. Place your hand inside the wig with your knuckles facing upwards, and start to pull the wig over your head from behind. If you don't have a wig head, you can hold the wig in your hands while cutting. If your hairline is slightly curved, you can wear the wig on your head to determine how you want to cut it.
- Second, use a makeup pencil to outline your hairline from ear to ear. Spray the hair with some water so you can brush the hair away from the edges. Use a little bit of wig wax to make sure all your bio hairs are away from the lace that you will not cut any of those off. Prepare a couple of clips so that you can clip the hair away from the lace and a pair of scissors that are nice and sharp on the ends.
- Third, start from the middle, make small cuts in a zig-zag motion and just snip until about a quarter of an inch away from the lace and then come on the other side to do the same. Now you’re just going to cut straight across and that gets rid of that little flap. Make sure not to cut the elastic band near the ear tabs or wig cap.
- Fourth, use another clip to pin the hair away from the bottom and now you’re just going to start at the bottom of the lace and cut it to where you melt that piece the first flap that you cut off. Remember not to cut off too much at your first attempt because you can’t replace what you’ve cut off. Doing so, you can do back and trim it up a little bit. If you need to just make sure that you don’t cut into the hairline that you leave yourself enough lace in case there is some fraying of the lace later on in the wefts of a wig.
It is common to feel nerve-wracking for the first time you cut the lace off by yourself. Take your time, it is actually not that bad.
