How to care for your human hair toppers and wigs?

by WIGSHE

Toppers and wigs made of 100% human hair need some love and care to look good and last long. You don't need to wash your wig as often as you wash your own hair. It is recommended to wear it every 10-20 times, depending on the product you use and the activity you do while wearing it.

  • How to wash your wig or barrette?

To clean your wig, you should gently brush out knots and wet hair with slightly lukewarm water. This is easily done in the sink. Use a small amount of SLS (sodium laurate)-free shampoo and massage it through your hair. Be especially gentle on the crown and tip areas of your head. Repeat the process. Rinse out all shampoo completely before adding a small amount of moisturizing conditioner. Apply to lengths and tips only. Applying to ends or silky areas can loosen knots and shorten the life of the hair. Rinse all conditioners thoroughly. If you use too much conditioner or don't rinse it out completely, your hair may look "dirty."

If your hair is blonde or feels like it needs care, you can add a moisturizing mask now and leave it on for the recommended time. Rinse in.

Rinse under cold water (warm water removes oil and soap, cold water closes cuticles).
Squeeze out excess water, then wrap in a towel and squeeze again to remove moisture.
Lay the wig flat on the towel to dry until the wig gets wet. Now you can put it on the wig head or wig stand. Be very careful with the size of your wig cap. After stretching the wig cap to dry on the wig head, stretch the wig cap.
To prolong the life of the knot, you can dry the wig cap using the low temperature setting on your hair dryer before placing it on the wig stand and allowing the hair to dry naturally. Once the hair is completely dry, you can style it as you wish.

  • How to style your wig or topper?

You can use any heating device designed for human hair for your wig or topper, this includes hair dryers, curling irons and straighteners.

I recommend buying a cork wig topper with a stand or clips and some T-pins. Use the T-pins to attach your wig to the cork wig head. Make sure the pins go through the clips, or solid material on the weft. Do not run the t-pins through the silk areas or lace areas.

To store your wig, you can place it on a wig stand or in a silk bag.
